The End of Era – Marina Golf Course

My one last shot with MBGC 🙂

It’s quite sad to know that we will never see a golf course with Singapore Skyline ever again,

it’s the #endofera.

Unfortunately, MBGC was not allowed to renew its lease and will be officially closed today.

“Got money also no use” 🥲- the government wants the land back means they want it back.

That’s Singapore.

As you know, Singapore has always been known as the “best-planned city” in the world. As much as I will miss this place, I am even more excited to find out what’s next.

I guess because it’s Marina Bay. It’s the prime of the prime-est area.

We are just a tiny red dot. Our land is expensive and scarce.

Golf courses are usually land intensive + leases are expensive. We are talking about over 10 million dollars here $$$

Besides that, do you guys still golf in Singapore? Or do you travel to Malaysia/Indonesia to golf?

Some netizens said golf courses and country clubs are an “incredibly inefficient use of land benefitting only a small group of privileged people”. Another argument has been made that golfing is a “selfish” way of utilizing land that could go to public housing or amenities.

Hmm, okay it’s quite true…

Nonetheless, don’t worry. There will still be golf courses in Singapore, especially those close to nature reserves which are less accessible for residents (the government probably wouldn’t take back the land for redevelopment just yet)

I’ll leave the judgment to your own accord.

By now, I guess you see why the government wants MBGC back to redevelop for other uses such as housing and public infrastructure.

👉 But first, you must understand how to read the plan and strategize your property journey ahead.

According to the URA master plan, MBGC is classified as a reserve site. Hence, we do not know what kind of redevelopment we are expecting – it could be prime residential, commercial, or even a theme park?
